Shares are evidence of work

A share is a submitted proof of work meeting the pool's target. Most valid shares are not Bitcoin blocks because the network target is harder to meet. The pool uses submitted work to estimate your contribution. Variable share difficulty can change the number of shares without changing the miner's actual speed, so raw share counts are not a fair comparison across different difficulty settings.

Read the payout rules

An FPPS system pays according to the expected value of accepted work and includes transaction-fee revenue under the pool's methodology. It smooths pool-luck variability but does not fix the future dollar value of your revenue. Solo mining has very different variance: finding a block is uncertain and a small miner may receive no block reward for a very long time. Never interpret a statistical expectation as a schedule.

Compare the complete service

Check supported algorithms, payout method, fee basis, minimum withdrawal, settlement timing and available endpoints in the pool's current documentation. A low headline fee can be offset by unsuitable withdrawal conditions or poor connectivity. Verify the payout network and address carefully. Enable account protection and monitor any address changes; do not share a wallet seed, private key or account password with someone offering setup help.

Investigate rejected or stale work

Occasional rejected shares do not identify a failed hashboard on their own. Read the rejection reason and compare the rate over a consistent interval. Check the endpoint, worker credentials, network stability and logs before changing hardware settings. A rise after overclocking calls for returning to a documented stable profile. Stale work can reflect timing or connectivity; do not assume every rejection has the same cause.

Reconcile balances and withdrawals

Record accepted work, credited reward, fees and actual withdrawals separately. A growing unpaid balance may simply be below a payout threshold, but verify the pool's status and your settings. Compare equivalent time zones and complete settlement periods. Keep one worker per device where practical so a missing machine is visible, and retain logs before contacting support. Your mining calculator estimates a scenario; it does not reconcile a pool account automatically.
