KuCoin pauses Monero deposits and withdrawals for wallet maintenance
Source report: 2026-09-23 · Editorial analysis published: 2026-09-25
KuCoin scheduled a temporary XMR deposit-and-withdrawal closure from 01:00 UTC on September 24 and says service will resume after maintenance, without publishing a completion time.

Analysis and practical implications
This section is our analysis and illustrative calculations, separate from the source report.
What KuCoin actually announced
KuCoin posted the notice at 21:18 on September 23 and said Monero deposits and withdrawals would close at 01:00 UTC on September 24 for essential wallet maintenance. The exchange said both services will resume after the work is completed but gave no finish time or block height. The notice does not say that spot trading is halted, that XMR is delisted or that the Monero network itself is offline. Those are different events. Users should follow the original English announcement and the exchange status page for any later reopening notice.

An exchange wallet pause is not a blockchain halt
Monero miners can continue submitting shares to pools and the network can continue producing blocks while one exchange disables deposits and withdrawals. The restriction exists at KuCoin’s custody boundary: new transfers may not be credited and balances may not leave until the wallet service reopens. A user interface may still display an address, but that does not mean deposits made during maintenance will be processed promptly. Sending funds against the warning can create a long reconciliation delay even when the on-chain transaction is valid.
Pool payout routes need checking
Miners who direct pool payouts straight to a KuCoin deposit address should verify the pool’s current minimum, payout schedule and ability to change the destination before the next batch. If the pool has already constructed a payment, changing settings may affect only future rounds. Some pools hold sub-threshold balances while others pay automatically. Do not paste a replacement address without confirming that it is a native Monero address under the miner’s control. An exchange account identifier, payment reference from another asset or copied address from an untrusted message can cause irreversible loss.
Self-custody reduces timing dependence
A maintained Monero wallet allows a miner to receive pool payouts without waiting for an exchange’s deposit system. That does not remove operational responsibility: the wallet seed must be backed up offline, software should come from the official project, downloads should be verified, and the device should be protected from malware. Hardware and software support for privacy assets differs, so test a small amount first. Self-custody is useful for routing and timing, but it does not guarantee exchange liquidity, price or the ability to convert funds during maintenance.
Avoid creating duplicate or speculative support tickets
KuCoin supplied no maintenance completion estimate. Repeated transfers and repeated tickets can make reconciliation harder because support must map several transaction IDs and account records. If an XMR transfer was sent, retain the transaction hash, destination address, amount, timestamp and any payment identifier, and use only the official support channel. Never send a seed or private spend key to support. A legitimate exchange can investigate a deposit with public transaction data and account details; anyone asking for secret keys is creating a separate security incident.
Trading availability and withdrawal availability are separate
An internal exchange trade can change a customer’s account balance even when the corresponding blockchain wallet is under maintenance. The resulting XMR remains a claim inside the exchange until withdrawals reopen. Likewise, selling an existing exchange balance does not prove new deposits are credited. Miners should separate three checks: whether the market pair trades, whether deposits are accepted, and whether withdrawals broadcast. Price differences during a closure may reflect temporary transfer friction, but arbitrage requires both venues to support the full deposit-and-withdrawal path.
Watch for impersonation during maintenance
Wallet outages attract fake reopening notices, support accounts and phishing links. The safest path is to navigate directly to KuCoin’s official domain, confirm the exact announcement and avoid links sent through unsolicited messages. Check the asset ticker and network carefully because a similarly named token is not Monero. When service resumes, perform a small withdrawal to a controlled address before moving a large balance. Verify the received transaction in a trusted wallet and confirm the address from a second view, especially when clipboard malware is a concern.
The reopening notice is the next evidence
The only confirmed timeline is the start at 01:00 UTC on September 24. KuCoin says service will resume after maintenance; until an official update or working wallet status is visible, a completion claim would be speculation. Mining operations do not need to stop, but treasury routing may need a temporary change. Keep payout records, avoid sending into a disabled deposit path, and document any address changes so accounting can reconcile rewards. The event is operational maintenance at one exchange, not evidence of a Monero consensus failure or a permanent withdrawal ban.
