CME now lists Bitcoin Cash futures as live: what the new contracts actually change

Source checked: 2026-10-20 · Editorial analysis published: 2026-10-20

CME’s product page and FAQ now confirm that standard and Micro Bitcoin Cash futures are available. These are contracts on price, rather than a delivery of coins into a wallet.

The launch is now confirmed by the exchange

CME’s Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap product page now says “Now Live”, and its FAQ explicitly says the new contracts are available for trading. We checked both on October 20. The earlier September 22 announcement had targeted October 19 subject to regulatory review. The current confirmation is the new development; we are not treating the old target date as proof on its own.

For Bitcoin Cash, the standard contract uses ticker BCA and represents 250 BCH. The Micro version uses MCH and represents 25 BCH. Both refer to Bitcoin Cash, whose ticker is BCH, not to Bitcoin’s BTC. That distinction matters when a short headline simply says that a new “Bitcoin” product has reached a major exchange.

A futures contract is not a coin purchase

A futures contract is a financial agreement linked to an asset’s price. It lets participants take exposure to price changes or offset a price risk they already have. CME explains that these cryptocurrency contracts are financially settled against reference rates. Settlement means calculating and paying the financial result; it does not mean sending the named number of BCH into the holder’s wallet.

The reference rate for these contracts is the CME CF Bitcoin Cash-Dollar Reference Rate, identified as BCHUSD_RR. A reference rate is a defined benchmark for the price used in the contract. It is different from selecting a particular exchange’s current buy button. The exchange’s FAQ also makes clear that a digital wallet is not required for its financially settled contracts.

Why “Micro” still needs an explanation

The Micro contract is one tenth of the standard BCH contract, because 25 divided by 250 is 0.1. That makes the price exposure smaller per contract. It does not make a contract the same thing as buying a fraction of one coin, and the name alone says nothing about whether it is suitable for a particular person.

For a simple illustration, a $1-per-BCH price change corresponds to $250 on a 250-BCH contract or $25 on a 25-BCH contract, before fees and other trading effects. That is a sensitivity example, not a quoted market price or a return forecast. It shows why the amount represented by a contract matters even when the money initially posted to trade it is smaller.

The deposit is not the whole exposure

Margin is the collateral required to hold a futures position. It is not the same number as the full amount of the asset represented by the contract. Leverage means controlling a larger exposure with a smaller amount of posted money. It can magnify losses as well as gains, and additional collateral can be required when prices move.

CME says access is through a futures broker, and actual access depends on the broker and applicable jurisdiction. This is not a universal offer available through any cryptocurrency app. Readers comparing products need the current contract rules, their broker’s terms and the costs, rather than assuming that a regulated venue removes the financial risk of the position.

Original sensitivity example: a US$1 move per BCH corresponds to US$250 on BCA or US$25 on MCH, before fees and other effects. It is not a live price, deposit requirement or return forecast.

What changes for Bitcoin Cash miners

A futures listing adds a way to manage or take price exposure. It does not change Bitcoin Cash’s mining reward, create new mining hardware or guarantee that the coin price will rise. Someone receiving BCH from mining still faces the practical task of paying power bills and deciding how to handle the coins they earn.

Hedging means using a financial position to reduce a specific risk, such as a future fall in the selling price of output. It also introduces costs, timing and contract-size questions. The availability of a hedge is different from a measured increase in mining profitability. A home-mining calculator still needs the machine’s performance and the electricity tariff, not merely news of an exchange listing.

A price on a screen needs a timestamp

CME’s FAQ says its website offers delayed quotes, with real-time information available through quote vendors and CME Direct. A displayed price therefore needs a timestamp and a description of the data feed. A recent page visit does not make every price on that page a real-time executable offer.

The spread is the gap between the price buyers bid and the price sellers ask. It helps explain why the last recorded trade alone does not describe the cost of entering or leaving a position. These are things to examine, not claims that the new BCH contracts have a particular spread or trading volume. Availability and measured trading conditions remain separate questions.

What to watch after the announcement

The same launch also covers UNI futures, sized at 10,000 UNI and 1,000 UNI for the Micro contract. These are separate products tied to a different token; their sizes should not be mixed with the BCH figures. A contract’s currency, size and settlement benchmark are more informative than the general label “crypto futures”.

After availability is confirmed, trading activity and the quality of prices become relevant questions. This article does not invent first-day volume or open interest, the amount of contracts still outstanding. The important confirmed change is that the exchange now identifies the BCH contracts as live. That expands the market’s tools, while leaving the network’s coin issuance and an individual miner’s operating costs unchanged.
