Low-power modes and autotuning: compare net results
Evaluate an approved operating profile using accepted work, measured energy and stability.

Set a clear operating objective
Decide whether the constraint is electrical capacity, heat, electricity price or a target level of production. A lower power setting can reduce output as well as consumption. A higher hashrate can increase costs faster than revenue. Define the decision in terms of measured net contribution within equipment limits. Do not assume that every model or stock firmware supports an arbitrary power target; available modes depend on the hardware and software.
Record the reference profile
Save the installed version, operating mode, ambient conditions, sustained accepted hashrate and measured wall power. Allow normal initialization and tuning to finish before collecting the reference. Record developer or pool fees where applicable. A comparison against the manufacturer’s headline figure is weaker than a comparison against your own stable device, especially when the site temperature and power measurement boundary differ from the published test conditions.
Change one supported setting
Use a documented mode or supported target within the device and electrical installation limits. Pilot on one miner and preserve a recovery configuration. Do not use an aggressive voltage or frequency increase as a shortcut to better economics. Autotuning behavior and completion time vary by firmware and operating conditions. A displayed power target is not a substitute for an actual meter reading at the chosen measurement boundary.
Compare revenue and energy together
For a simple illustrative daily comparison, profile A earns 8 units of currency and costs 6 in electricity, leaving 2 before other costs. Profile B earns 7 and costs 4, leaving 3. These are hypothetical inputs, not current mining returns. Include fees, external cooling and any differences in uptime consistently. A favorable efficiency number alone cannot show whether the profile delivers the better contribution under your tariff.
Recheck after conditions change
Keep the profile only if it remains stable and respects all safety limits. Review the result after major ambient temperature, revenue or tariff changes. Distinguish a temporary tuning state from steady production. If alarms, missing boards or repeated restarts appear, stop the comparison and investigate rather than averaging the fault away. Preserve the successful settings and the measurements so another operator can reproduce the decision.
