Fortitude names Jaime Leverton CEO as Zcash miner expansion advances
Source report: 2026-09-17 · Editorial analysis published: 2026-09-18
The September 17 release confirms a leadership change and describes Z15 Pro orders; delivery and the proposed merger remain future milestones.

Analysis and practical implications
This section is our analysis and illustrative calculations, separate from the source report.
What was announced on September 17
Fortitude announced Jaime Leverton as its next chief executive, with the appointment effective September 21, 2026. Andrea Childs is to become chief operating officer. The release was filed as an exhibit with the SEC. On our September 18 publication date, the effective date is still ahead: we report an announced transition, not a completed handover. This matters for distinguishing current management from future responsibilities when following the company’s mining strategy.

A Z15 Pro order is not operating hashrate
The company describes May purchase agreements for 9,000 Bitmain Antminer Z15 Pro units, representing about 7.56 GSol/s of incremental Equihash capacity, with shipments expected in Q4 2026. These are company-reported orders and delivery expectations. Our operational reading separates signing, shipping, arrival, electrical installation and accepted pool shares. Equipment becomes productive only after those stages, and an order’s headline hashrate should not be added to today’s operating fleet.
Compare Equihash within the correct algorithm
Our equipment comparison starts with the algorithm. Equihash throughput expressed in solutions per second cannot be substituted for a Bitcoin SHA-256 rate expressed in TH/s. Check the exact model, factory configuration, wall power and supported workload before comparing two cards. A Zcash expansion is relevant to owners of compatible equipment, but it does not supply an input for a Bitcoin hashprice scenario. Use a separate gross-revenue assumption and disclose the date and source of that assumption.
Power capacity and device consumption have different boundaries
For our readers, the useful infrastructure question is how much usable electrical capacity remains after auxiliary loads, redundancy and operating limits. A site’s contracted MW, an ASIC’s rated watts and measured energy consumption are separate quantities. When budgeting a new batch, account for cooling, networking and the actual number of simultaneously running devices. Our catalogue’s device power is a model specification; it is not a measurement of Fortitude’s facilities or a statement that every announced purchase can be powered immediately.
Measure output after commissioning
Our commissioning checklist records online hours, accepted and rejected shares, pool-side performance, electricity use and any maintenance interruption over the same interval. A short successful connection proves connectivity, not long-term production. Comparing a delivery plan with a monthly operating result requires the relevant dates and device count. Keep a record of costs before first revenue as well. This turns a large procurement headline into questions that an operator can answer with logs instead of treating a future fleet as already earning coins.
The next milestones remain conditional
Fortitude’s proposed combination with HeartSciences remains subject to closing conditions; the announced target is Q4 2026. An expected future ticker is not evidence that the transaction has closed. Readers should watch for an actual completion filing and separately for equipment deliveries and commissioning. Our photographs are credited historical infrastructure illustrations, not images of Fortitude’s sites, its leadership or its ordered Z15 Pro batch. We preserve September 17 as the source date and September 18 as our publication date.
Separate the procurement budget from daily operation
Our budget framework separates the price of acquiring equipment from ongoing power, service, pool fees and downtime. Revenue from an existing fleet should not be used as proof of the exact economics of a future batch. Keep the same calculation period and include the interval between payment and commissioning. When comparing expansion with retaining existing devices, mark missing inputs explicitly. This is an operational assessment method, not a valuation of Fortitude or an instruction to purchase ZEC or mining hardware.
